Ashes in Nepal
Kathmandu, Nepal
Located in Kathmandu of Nepal, the Baghmati River is highly valued by residents at the centre of Kathmandu. The project was inspired by a trip to Nepal in the middle of 2017. For the belief of Hinduism, local people tend to cremate bodies beside the sacred river, and then scatter ashes into the rivers. The river is seriously polluted. Ashes deposit at the bottom of the river and form a white riverbed, and garbage from cremation accumulates along the bank. The Bagmati River is called the sacred river because residents fetch daily drinking water and bath water from it. The life of residents is closely connected with the river. With respect to the religious activities of local residents, this project can enhance the water quality of the river and improve life quality and well-being of residents.
